I am really having fun with these cards! I have had them for awhile, but just figured out some new things to do with them. My set is called Silly Sentences, but it looks like the set is now called Nouns, Verbs and More by School Zone Publishing!
The deck has colorful and fun picutes of plural nouns, present tense verbs, adjectives, and some "and" cards. I grabbed my little jar of sentence building words and pulled out the words one, many, a, the to go in front of the cards, and the is and are words to go between the nouns and verbs/adjectives. We flipped through the piles doing sentences with the patterns.
1. Some bees dance
2. One bee dances. (I covered all the bees except for one with my fingers.)
3. Some bees are dancing.
4. One bee is dancing.
After that we used the adjectives.
5. Some bees are hairy
Then we switched the cards around and added the verbs and expanded it to before going to the next cards in the stack.
6. Some hairy bees are dancing.
7. Some dancing bees are hairy.
Then on to the same thing with
7. One bee is hairy.8. One hairy bee is dancing.
9. One dancing bee is hairy.
Lastly we tried to make up our own ending
9. One hairy bee is dancing on the flower.
What I liked about this activity was that the students had significantly more "talk" time than I did and could be very independent once the pattern was established. It also utilizes the visual modality which is often a strength for my students.
There are many more things you could practice with this deck that I haven't had time to get to yet - past tense, contractions, possessives, pronouns and combining sentences!
Check 'em out!
