Stories about Africa - Galimoto

Galimoto is one of my favorite African stories. Galimoto's are toy cars made of wire and coke cans for wheels. They would have a long handle so you could stand up and steer them. Galimoto's were very popular in Swaziland where I grew up, only we didn't call them that. Another popular toy was a tire and a stick. You would hit the tire with a stick making it roll and run after it! Toys were rather scarce in Swaziland. You either made your own or had them passed down to you from someone else. We didn't throw away our toys, but passed them on to another family. I am sure that a little boy or girl in Swaziland is still riding my trike or playing with the doll I played with when I was little! Hope you enjoy the story!
