Not So Fast Songololo by Niki Daly. It has a tape that is read by someone with an African accent. I found it at the La Quinta Library. Book by itself can be found on
Amazon .
Learning to Swim in Swaziland: A Child'S-Eye View of a Southern African Country
By Nila K Leigh who was an American kid who lived in Swaziland for a while. Love this book! Looks like a child's scrapbook, kid writing and pictures and photographs. I had to go on amazon.com and buy a used copy, but it's great!
When Africa Was Home (Orchard Paperbacks)
by Karen Lynn WIlliams. It's about a white child who feels like an alien when his family returns to America. He is so happy when his family moves back to Africa.
Galimoto (Reading Rainbow Book)
by Karen Lynn Williams. This book is about a little African boy trading things to get the materials he needs to make his "Galimoto", a toy vehicle made with wire. Remember those? What a contrast for our kids here in America with all the toys we have here. I remember a favorite toy of the African kids where I lived was an old tire and a stick to roll it with. Did you ever roll down a hill in a tire?
Elizabeti's Doll (Elizabeti Series)
by Stephanie Stuve Bodeen. This book also is a great contrast between how fortunate we are here in America - or maybe not! A little African girl doesn't have a doll so she adopts a rock as her doll and plays with it and takes care of it like her mother does her little baby brother. Very sweet!
